The unending rise in the price of fuel has eviscerated the purchasing power of those on fixed-incomes and the Middle Class - the government’s electorally convenient, but quickly forgotten support base.
People are wondering where the money for their next meal is coming from, or the odds of making next month’s mortgage payment or rent, all while the GST/HST is slashing through what little remains in their pocketbooks.
The government knows that it is raking in billions of dollars from the gas bonanza. I call on the Prime Minister to introduce a tax rebate - like the fiscally prudent and compassionate Paul Martin government did - to help Canadians:
